This Civic Si Group A version was modeled after the MUGEN MOTUL CIVIC, a Group A race car based on the third-generation Si, Honda's first production car in 14 years to feature a DOHC engine. In Division 1 of the All-Japan Touring Car Championship, for cars with engine displacements from 1001 cc to 1600 cc, it was unstoppable, winning its class in all six rounds and securing the 1987 Manufacturers' title for Honda.
