About this car
Making the switch from a heavy V12 engine to a lighter V8 helped this Mercedes-Benz dominate the FIA GT championship.
To compete in the newly established FIA GT Championship in 1997, Mercedes-Benz and AMG developed the CLK-GTR in just 128 days. Equipped with a V-12 engine, the car proved immediately successful, securing both the team and driver championships in its debut season. The following year, Mercedes introduced the CLK-LM as an evolution model. It made its debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, going on to dominate the FIA GT Championship, winning all 10 rounds and clinching the season title.
